The Monson's Newborn Lifestyle Session | Clovis, CA
Updated: Feb 11
Rebecca first reached out to me several months ago. A mutual friend (you'll see her blog post coming soon), recently had her family portraits done and recommended me as a COVID-compliant family photographer.
I take the safety of my clients very seriously. From the start of the pandemic, I've worn a mask to every session, complete regular temperature checks, and sanitize down. You can see more about my COVID-19 Health & Safety Policy here. These practices are especially important for newborn lifestyle sessions, as fresh babies are in a higher risk category.
The Monson's baby was born back in the beginning stages of the pandemic, and missed out on some of those really fresh newborn photos. Like I said in my prep guide for Newborn Lifestyle Sessions, while 7-14 days after the baby is born is ideal, if you need more time, we can still do our lifestyle session several months later.
As you can see in this album, later worked just fine for this sweet family.
When I arrived, their baby was getting some well-needed nourishment. I saw the opportunity and began right away, capturing some beautiful images of that connection during feeding times. They ended up being some of my favorites from their session.
I love the variety that multiple perspectives offer in telling a story.
Next up, you can see baby looking over at Dad. He may or may not have been making faces to get her attention, but you can see the recognition and connection in her eyes as she gazes over at him.
Again, those two different perspective. Baby and mom are in the exact same position, but I walked around to get this secondary angle on an incredibly touching moment.
This session was right around Christmastime, so we captured a few seasonal shots as well. These are fun to share on social media, put in baby book, an ornament, and send as Christmas photos.
We made sure to take a few by the tree as well.
In between all of these, we took a few breaks for baby's sake. I took the opportunity to highlight some of baby's nursery. Her parents spent quite a bit of time putting it all together, so it definitely deserved some attention.
I was also sure to come back out and sneak a few tender moments as mom and dad soothed baby.
Even when baby is in tears, it's still possible to find those beautiful, comforting moments.
After some time inside, we decided to head over to Lost Lake, CA to get a few outdoor family portraits.
Your session really is what you make it.
It brings me so much joy to step into my clients' world, and capture such a unique and beautiful time in their life. Having a newborn in your life can be such a terrifying, sweet, exhilarating, and rare point in your life.
If you're considering one for yourself, but have a few more questions, then head out to my last blog post, which offers my Newborn Lifestyle Prep Guide and walks you through a full session.
